15TH OF ALYSTOS, 851
I have now begun my research into probing souls. Why others of my species have
always been content with reading minds is beyond me. Fools. The mind only
knows what has happened in this life, whereas the soul has existed for
practically an eternity. This is the key to unlocking psychic powers unknown
to even the elder brains, I'm sure of it.
27TH OF ALYSTOS, 851
Subjects so far have been disappointing. I know for certain that Ahm has a
strong presence in this realm, yet these souls show no signs of past lives or
reincarnations of any kind. There's not much to gain from probing a leopard
warrior who has no notion of having been anything other than a bloody leopard
warrior, walking circles in his bloody village! It's as if these souls have
never had any ambitions.

Today I received a subject through my contacts in the cult of Aelena that
promises to be interesting. It is one of their own cultists, supposedly
angered the Queen of Poisons some way or other. Bah, deities and their
fickleness. No matter, initial probing revealed this soul has gone through
dozens of wildly different reincarnations, finally I have a seam to begin true
studies.
19TH OF GETTRELLYN, 851
Probed deeper into the soul. Its malleability is not related to the current
host's worship of Chaos as I first suspected, the incarnations I've seen have
been both good and evil in varying degrees. More astoundingly they do not seem
limited by the borders of our reality! In one it was a blacksmith in a human
town called Beregost, which I cannot recall ever seeing on a map. In another
it was a monster hunter that helped stop the apocalypse - one would think that
would be on record somewhere had it been in our world!
24TH OF GETTRELLYN, 851
There has been a setback, a band of Liberators raided the lab. They were led
by one of those celestial types, a Valar. Mindslaves on the top floor made
defense believable enough that the band didn't realize there was more to the
lab, but the presence of that Valar still worries me. They are known to harry
their targets with unreasonable determination. Probing session proved
fruitless as my mind was still on the distraction and no progress was made.

I saw myself in the soul's vision today, only it wasn't me as I currently am.
I was..older. In the vision the soul had the form of a Valar Liberator similar
to the one from yesterday, and it was chasing me through some unknown cavern
system. Could it be that a soul probe spans through time as well as space? The
thought is as terrifying as it is exciting.
1ST OF ROZGAYN, 851
Every probing has been the same now, only increasingly intense. I am having
difficulties telling if the vision is in fact true, or if it is simply
something the soul chooses to show me. Can it be aware of my presence? If it
can lie to me in these visions, how can I trust anything I've seen. I need to
suspend the probing sessions and think this through.
5TH OF ROZGAYN, 851
The soul has escaped. I do not know how, but there's no mistaking that the
body is just a husk now. It would be foolish to assume the subject suffered a
final death, no, the soul must have reincarnated. I am still no closer to
understanding if what I saw was a glimpse of the future, a threat, a decoy, or
something else entirely. Is it some manifest destiny, or just the soul
picking up on my fear of that blasted Valar? I suppose none of it matters now,
I must flee.
