Well its been a long time coming but Babylon is out of cash and the rent has
been overdue a couple of months. Since Backlash isnt playing anymore, we can
safely assume it is going to fade away in the next few months. Letting
residents know in advance so you can make arrangements to move elsewhere.

It'd suck if Babylon would have to 'fade away'. Hopefully wizards will remove
city tax before that?

There really should be another option then let the one of the biggest cities
fade in to bitspace. Help wizzes, pretty please? :/

I thought there was a possibility for tenants to pay the rent too?

Yeah, i realize that, but how should it be divided amongst residents? does one
pay 10k,50k?100k?

Well it seems to work on other pcities... If one doesn't like it, move to
another city.

citizens of babylon, i for one would like to not see the city die, taxes are
fairly astronomical for 1 person to foot but really all we'd need to do is
throw 2-3 cash parties together per month with all proceeds going to rent.
It's worth a try so anyone active living here please toss me a tell and we
can see if we have enuff people to try to get this going.

I have some rooms in babylon and I have no problem in contributing
some cash towards babylon rent.

However, some questions still remain:
As far as I know, babylon does generate some income for the city
owner/s. This might be pretty small in comparison to the city rent
but babylon residents would still appear to have a small problem if
this is just, essentially, lost.

There was talk about changing the way that rent was required. Perhaps
a wiz could provide some more details and a rough timescale for changes.
Will having a retired city owner still pose a problem to residents
after any changes?

It would seem to be a bit of a failure of the pcity system if
players, particularly newer or lower level players, have been
encouraged to purchase rooms in larger cities (this may not have
been an intentional part of the pcity system) and then face the
prospect of simply loosing those rooms if older players "retire"
in some manner.

I would imagine that backlash is not the first, and won't be the
last, city owner to "retire".

Of course, this kind of situation may be more the result of the
success of retaining players for such a long amount of time and
also gaining new players at the same time that quite old castles
have rooms owned by both inactive and active players.

While I don'tt have the same problem that you guys do, I believe I offered a
solution to taxes some time ago on ideas-wanted, which was to be able to
configure income so that it pays for taxes first if possible and then passes
out the income to those designated by the owners. Granted it won't work for
all cities, maybe only the top 20 income as shown in 'stock' but it certainly
could prove helpful. Also, it might not be a b ad idea to be able to choose a
new admin after the owner of the city has been inactive for x amount of time.
After all, can we not replace our mayors and our presidents?
Just thoughs...
Sorry for any typos, I'm using regular telnet.
