posted this in monk chat as well but wanted to put it up here also, has anyone
notice area effect skills not working if the mob contains different named
monsters? for instance if i'm fighting against 4 worker ants, it works just
fine, hitting all of them. but let's say the mob is 1 worker ant, 1 soldier
ant and 1 guardian ant, then whenever i use any of those skills, it just hits
one of them. i tried 'target clear' to make sure i'm not targeting just one of
them but it didn't make a difference. thanks for all the future answers :)

Yes. I did that on purpose. Most of the area effect skills (reaver, archer and
monk) are mine, and they all to the same thing. Simply put, area spells are
better than area skills. That said, using an area skill won't, for example,
clip another player entering the room at the wrong time.

Area skills hit a single "party" of enemies. This includes monsters of the
same name most often, but other specially coded groups too, as well as actual
parties of opponents (say, player killing).
