Full Version: Bat client .jnlp error Java 1.4.x

Hi there, I'm a new player to Bat Mud, and I have some problems getting the Bat Mud client started up.

I'm getting this error when I double click the batclient-eu.jnlp app.

QUOTE
An error occurred while launching/running the application.

Title: Batclient
Vendor: Balanced Alternative Techniques ry
Category: Launch File Error

Unsupported JNLP version in launch file: 1.5+. Only version 1.0 is supported with this version. Please contact the application vendor to report this problem.

I tried to run a search of these forums for a similar problem, but didn't find much of an answer (as well as Google searching)

My first impression was that I needed to update Java, which I tried to do, but was told that I have the most recent update.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this, or what I'm doing wrong? I'm running on a Mac if this makes any difference. But hell I wish I wasn't.

This definitely sounds like a Java version error. Can you report which version of Java do you actually have? If you're using Windows, you should see this from Control Panel -> Java -> About. For instance, mine is Version 6 Update 5 (build 1.6.0_05-b13) which is one update older than what is right now available from http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_xp...www.java.com:80

Both versions should work fine, as well as even the older 1.5 -series.

I'm running on Java 1.4.2 - which I guess is too far out of date? Is that the problem?

On my Mac OS X version (10.3.9) only Java version 1.4.2 is available at the moment (if at all), so I'm stuck with only this for the forseeable future.

Clyros, I'm sorry to say but yes; version 1.4.x is badly outdated and will not run Batclient. Running Batclient on your case would, to my best knowledge, require a) update of your Macintosh OSX version (for later Java version availability) or b) a later Java version to be available for that OSX revision.

You could try editing the .jnlp to allow 1.4.x, but I don't think that won't help even if you'd circumvent that check. Or if it would, the client would probably not function properly.

Alright, that's rather disappointing, but thanks a lot for your help anyway. I think I'll just have to connect through another client untill something changes!

You could try complaining to Apple...but I doubt their corporate machine is willing to continue supporting those new versions on the older OSXes.
