Going to open this discussion, since it seems ship combat is changing and
currently things doesn't seem to work. To put it short: currently it is not
improving gaming experience.

A week ago I was going from area to a other and pirate ship came and grappled
me. That basically rendered my ships combat abilities to none. Couldn't
move(tried several times), couldn't fight(tried ramming, didn't work. Couldn't
shoot with cannons), couldn't secure the ship. So my sole option was to yell
help and hope that someone would come to the rescue. While waiting I could see
how my crew(golem) was slowly been damaged. After 15 minutes my golem was
around 80%(if i recall correctly) and then Tribune came and smashed the
attacker. Now after that pirate bastard was sinking I was still not able to
move out. After few mins the "fighting" and "grappled" statuses disappeared
and several minutes after that I was able to sail away.

It was really pleasant experience and person who had defender quarters in his
ship, said that those didn't matter. I hope this has changed, since I've been
lazy and haven't build those to my own ships yet.

Today I was sailing from area to next and pirate ship tried to ambush me. But
luckily my route was short and I was at the target area secured fast. Had good
nice regen breaks while gathering the keys and came back. Ship was "shielded"
and it looked like there's no fighting going on. Used ship scan and noticed
that 2 pirate ships were now circling above my ship. Ran to next area and
received keys from there and came back. Still 2 pirates were hunting my
secured ship. Got bored, since there has not been any decent announcement that
ship combat would be actually working, decided to go home and chest. Got
curious after an hour, ran back and there's now only 1(one) pirate ship still
hunting my gorgeous ship. And since I do not want to take risk of waiting long
time bugging combat, I am not going to use it today.

What would be nice, is to know what changes has been done to the combat, are
something still to be tuned and if something is tuned, could there be inform
of it somewhere?

This was fixed as soon as a resolution was found. I apologize for the
inconvenience and not making a more public notification. I generally don't
broadcast bugfixes. When new content is added to the game, you will be
notified.

With that in mind, with the upcoming changes: Sometimes you will lose.
Sometimes your crew will die. It has already become easier to replace them.
There are still methods to combat and crew that very few of you have bothered
to discover. I will not inform you of _every_ tune to the game, fine tuning is
not really any of the players' business (we do it all the time and you don't
even notice). I spend massive amounts of time collecting and analyzing data to
ensure that ship content is balanced and remains challenging. With your input,
I have managed to solve some of the most mysterious problems that have existed
for over a century. If new functionality is added or something is removed, it
will be announced. If something is majorly tuned that would vastly affect
gameplay, it will be announced, as most ones are.

I am currently trying to fix existing broken combat and functionality while
adding a lot of new content. This is extremely complex. I am basically the
sole maintainer of, at the very least, code that amounts to a 2000 page novel,
and even after 6+ years of maintaining, I still haven't seen all of. In
addition to that, I have several other wizards and large projects that I
supervise or am otherwise trying to keep people motivated on. I am very
receptive to your ideas, keep posting them, even if I don't respond. Report
the issues when you find them so I can keep track of them. Keep sailing. Keep
whining. Keep sinking. See you at the Anniversary Gala.
