Monks are often overlooked and have been considered as a "boring" and underpowered guild.
This is far from truth, monks have been a very good solo guild, and a good addition to templar\tarmalens for increasing defence.
Recently they got 12 new offensive skills to add bit variety and power to the guild, so I decided to write this short guide that
hopefully explains the strengths and weaknesses of The Warrior Brotherhood.
If some information is incorrect or the guide lacks something that should be there, reply it to this post\tell it to me so I can edit it here.

Strengths:

As the new skills don't require exp, they are reachable with very low totals. There are also lots of eq that give +Iron palm and +Martial arts
especially martial arts is an expensive skill, so training it to 70 and raising the rest with eqs helps. For example Silvery Amazon EQs are a good choice for monk with low totals.
Variety: especially after these new skills
Regen: atleast if combined with some tarma levels, monk rarely needs to regen. And if he must, kata+meditation will take you to max in no time.
Defence: Dodge, unarmed parry, defence sense and contact reflexes will boost monks defence high enough to compansate with low hpmax.
Even though monks don't use weapons, they do decent damage so you can kill bit bigger mobs too.

Weaknesses:

Greligs hpmax, it sucks. Taking race with high con or booning will help alot.
Stun. Although monks get stun, they dont have skills like battlecry\lure or spells like tiger claw(unless some of the new skills stun at higher percentages)

Genre:
You can join either as a male or as female, joining as male gives you higher guildmax for stunned maneuvers and throw weight, females get higher maxes for Find weakness and Kiai-cry
You are not allowed to change sex after joining.

Skills and Spells:

  • Punch: quite weak offensive skill, not really useful for anyone, you still want to train it some.
  • Kiai-cry: Bit like battlecry, but much less powerful, takes lot of ep and haven't found this one to be of much use
  • Mind over body: Takes alot of eps and gives you satiate.
  • Acupuncture: Healing skill allows you to heal with use of needles, Or even without if you have trained vital points. Train this, you might need it later with the trainers
  • Kata: Ceremony for skills, works very well with meditation
  • Ki: Not quite sure what this does, takes all of your sps when used and adds strenght to your hands or body? Well train it some anyway, again, you might need it with trainers.
  • Contact reflexes: gives +natural prots, very useful
  • Defence sense: gives +avoid, another very useful passive skill
  • Joint lock: Works like grapple, was broken for years but it's now fixed
  • Controlled motion: Passive skill, sometimes allows you to move without breaking concentration(doesn't work with spells), useful in situations where you want to use offensive skills against someone but don't want to aggro everyone in that room.
  • Vital points: Not quite sure what this does, in addition to allowing you to use acupuncture without needles
The New Skills and Trainers:

There are 4 new trainers for monks, each will teach 3 different skills. These skills are all offensive skills that have different kinds of
bonuses, making it actually useful to use different offensive skills in different situations.
Before you can access these new skills you have to use iron palm until you get the message that you have mastered it.
You also need to "re-master" iron palm every time you have completed training with one trainer, before you can start training with another.
after this you can start to ask the continental trainers about "Training", see below for their locations.
Continental trainers will guide you to some monster for further guidance(for example a "ninja clad in red silk" will help you with first trainer), these
monsters will further guide you to the actual trainer, giving the approximate locations of them.

Locations of Continental Trainers:

Note: These are NOT the trainers that will give you the new skills, but these will guide you to them, and you can train same skills here that you can train in monk guild.
The guild is found in Lucentium, some west from Lorenchia, on other continents you can train at:

Desolathya, bit south from Calythien crossing.

The New Skills:

Each trainer will ask you to do some small exercises before they give you the new skills, one new task before each skill.
Most tasks require syntaxes, some thinking and maybe a monk skill or two.
Once completed, you will get the skill to 50%, note that these new skills does not require any exp, and can't be trained with it either.
They raise as you use them, from 50% to 75%(which is the amount you need to raise it in order to get second skill) ratio is about 1%\4-5 _succesfull_ hits. After that the rate reduces quite much.

Each trainer will train you one 2 rnd, one 4 rnd and one 6 round skill. Skills from same trainer have same benefits and should be used together.
For example when you use all 3 skills of same type in a row, the duration will reduce and damage will go up. If succesful, the 2+4+6 round skills will go off in 2+2+2 when combined.
  • 1st trainer will teach you : Falling boulder strike, Earthquake kick and Avalanche slam. These skills are best against heavily armoured opponents, haven't tested if they work against pr mobs as well
  • 2nd trainer: Wave crest strike, Geyser force kick and Tsunami push. These are interrupting skills, not sure if they stun at higher percentages
  • 3rd trainer: Falcon talon strike, Elder cobra kick and Lions teeth throw. Skills from this trainer increase your defence when used, they atleast increase your avoid.
  • 4th trainer: Hydra fang strike, Winged horse kick and Dragon tail sweep. These are area offensive skills,
the amount of mobs they hit will rais when trained further.

I will try to add estimated damage and more accurate info when I get to test them more.
This guide is far from complete, but I hope it helps to understand the guild bit better, feel free to whine(or even thank!) And don't hesiate to submit your
own info.

A good guide, only one small addition:

It doesn't matter in which order you train with the trainers. You can train with the fourth one first and then proceed to train with the second one and so on.

I'm interested in the Animal skills bonus. Has the +avoid and/or def been tested and shown? There is (or was, tuned?) a very noticeable bonus given by those skills. Which, since similar bonuses have been noted when you spoke of other skills, I'm surprised you didn't mention it on here. Unless the +avoid or defencs is fairly good, the unmentioned bonus is wildly more useful.

Ok, this trig is a bit ugly but it works. Someone translate this into "Batclient" and Zmud. :-)
Better yet, someone write a more generic, better trig :)
The code has the word 'disrupt' for one set of skills... it might be misleading?

Actually, Dargon was right about the skills sometime ago on monk channel. If a combo skill breaks (lets say Elder Cobra Kick for instance), you can skill it again and it will go off in 2 rounds, if you had a successful Falcon Talon Strike done before it. And moreover, you can even use spells in the middle of the combo skills. Kinda sweet, ain't it :).

Wouldn't it be logical that the area effect skills would be more efficient against mirror image than the single target ones? At the moment the area skills hit only one image and imo it wouldn't be too suffeli if they affected a random amount of images (the higher the skill% the more images affected or so). Not saying they should be as efficient as an area spell, but it would add a bit more flavour still to the area skills.

yes, the area skills are rather limited, dont get me wrong, its still better than nothing, its not like i can think of another off skill that hits multiple targets. but a bit less rigidity would be nice. its sort of bad when i try to explain to a monk who has the skill that it hit multiple targets, and they dont believe me :D

Avoid skills, adds both to avoid and dodge, with parry at 51, I get def factor above 180.

Pharm is correct. A successful animal skill boosts both avoid and def factor. No temporary increase to dodge is shown in show skills though.

An example:

parry
You currently have 0/51 points in parry.
Your attack speed is reduced by 0 percent.
Dodge skill modified by carried weight to 120.
Your total defense factor is: 120.

You are prepared to do the skill.
You push off of Mole's shoulders hard enough to flip over its head, but can't get a decent claw in.
Because of the low amount of unidle players you receive some additional
experience for your kill.
Mole dies in a massive pool of blood.
Mole is DEAD, R.I.P.

parry
You currently have 0/51 points in parry.
Your attack speed is reduced by 0 percent.
Dodge skill modified by carried weight to 148.
Your total defense factor is: 148.

(Avoid went from weak to above average. And yes, my naked stats and skill percentages suck :).)

having falcon talon strike at oh 95+ i think, when i was naked i was able to get +33 dodge def, but it scaled down with eq, so sadness there.

another sort of crappy factor, is that if you want to chain in the other skills, unless you've managed to keep cobra kick and lion throw at the same percent as falcon, you will drop in def to whatever you get from their skill percentages. i guess thats not bad at 100 each, but still, its meh.

One thing (speculation only) about the specials of the earth skills. It's really hard to verify, but it seems that if the skills hit with the special message(s), my normal hit messages seem to scale up a bit (like the mob was in a low grade stun, the mobs isn't stunned though. Maybe something akin to tumbling attack bonus damage?).

As said, there really isn't any (or at least not an easy) way of verifying this, so shrug :).

And lastly, some yesterday's news (literally):

Shinarae <monk>: now adding: if you train a special combo skill to 100%, it is "peaked" and you don't need to pass the tests after you reinc. rebirth of course clears everything
Shinarae <monk>: "your skill has peaked" code added. someone let me know if they find out it bugs or doesn't work

Yay!

When training the first of each special skillset, it would be wise to train with Muk Yan Jong of some sort before trying the skills on the living or unliving.

Also, atleast on lower levels the skill rises every 4 successes

I've been doing some testing and it seems that acupuncture does affect the damage you do with wave crest strike. Not sure if Vital Points comes in to play, since I know it affects acupuncture a little, but I'm doing testing to find out.

Few things:
1. I've done more than 200 sucessfull Iron Palms but my trained still dont want to teach me (You are not ready yet) 2nd skill. Are there any other requirement for training 2nd skill. Perhaps certain skill requirements?
2. What is Ki meaning? i am studying martial arts irl abnd perhaps u can chanle all sps in one strike damage? Anyone tested many times? I will test that.
3. Very much passive skills - Dodge and Defence Sence are most important right? trying to advance them evenlyu, but some are expencive already
4. Iron palm have many doifferent messages, and they all differ by damage, so are there any chart from worst to best results of Iron Palm?
