Aelenas, where to begin. This is probably my favorite guild to play in all of
batmud and I've probably played the guild more than anything else (and
probably played the guild more than just about any other active aelena too!)

This guild has veered from being absurdly overpowered (at some point a even a
few years ago, slow death ticked continuously out of combat. So you could run
in, zap a 1rnd spell and sit outside. I soloed some 800k eq monsters like this
:D) to being relatively in tune (where slow death ticks out of combat for
smaller mobs but costs sps).

Overall, I'm not terribly happy with the state of the guild because of a few
tunes that have been made by a certain newbie wizard *coughcough*; In addition
there's some structural elements of how the guild works that really limit the
guild and make it ultimately unrewarding to play. This post will discuss my
criticisms of the guild; ill follow up with a second post which will discuss
my praise and suggestions on how to improve the guild. Most of this stuff I've
already discussed with Tyril btw, but I'm airing it here in a public forum so
that others can view my thoughts and discuss.

The Rep system: The rep system in aelena is by far my biggest criticism of the
guild. First, let's talk about the sting rep, i.e., insight of venoms. The
first issue here is that sting rep is a pure "mindless grind" style of rep.
Thus, gaining rep is only about casting sting of aelena as often as you
possibly can. This leads to absurd rep-gaining tactics like keeping black
trance on yourself always even when hpr is useless to you, and carrying around
20 weapons to keep rusted blade up on as many weapons as possible, and zapping
monsters with as many different barbs as you can before they die. Another
major problem with this kind of rep gain is that it?s extremely, extremely,
boring, monotonous, and repetitive. Most other guilds have moved on from this
kind of rep which more reminiscent of guilds coded in the 80s and 90s. In my
opinion, all guilds should have some form of ?non-F1 banging? rep gain.
However, I understand that some wizards and players disagree with me on this
point.
