Second, sting rep basically ?caps? after only a few months in the guild. Rep
scales on an exponential scale. What this means is that it gets exponentially
harder and harder to get to the next rep level. After about a month in the
guild it will take you six months to get to the next rep lvl. After that, a
year ? after that years and years. Currently, I?ve played an aelena for about
4 years now stuck at the same rep level. Batmud succeeds because players
either are, or are tricked into believing, that they are constantly
progressing in power. In aelena, that progress is far too slow to be an
effective motivator.

Familiar Rep: I have similar criticisms of familiar rep, in that it scales up
too fast and, thus, progression becomes really difficult, and that it?s a pure
grind. Familiar rep overly rewards ?beastland? rapists, in my opinion, and
does not have any interesting or role-playing features. I think the familiar
abilities are generally pretty good and work in the manner they are supposed
to, although eye of aelena seems pretty much useless, as well as the ?familiar
regen? abilities. I get the fact that the very limited familiar training
points means that a player will have to effectively choose either to go with
dissection/storage abilities or with the chaos weapon abilities. However, I
think that forcing a player to get poison chaos ability before anything else
is not very smart, because aelenas are severely handicapped as far as damage
types (more on this later). In addition, as I?ve already discussed with
Tyril, aelena familiars *badly* need a reinc/reset feature so that players can
experiment with them to see which play style they enjoy and what works best.
