So. yeah. that.! Reinc. challenges!

I've talked with a couple people about the idea.. after it naturally came
about in a back and forth with Pisano.

The idea would be that you'd start a new character and register it as a
challenge reinc under the name of your primary character. I'd imagine
there'd be a shop or board where you can choose which particular challenge
you're going to undertake.

Ideally, the various challenge ideas would come from a variety of imms
or arches who are best familiar with certain guilds. That being said,
many players have enough time in certain builds to make suggestions as
well.. I figure the more minds coming up with ideas, the more varied
the challenges would be. At any rate, they'd have to be well thought
out so that there's little or no blatant opportunity to abuse the
challenge. GOOD LUCK!

Off the top of my head, you could categorize them in different ways..

A)Skill challenges
Reach level XXX with no deaths.
B)Guild challenges
Sink and clear 500 ships on a boat you've built yourself.
Reach XXX rep within specific guild.
C)Build challenges
reach xxx level with a predetermined unorthodox build.

These are off the top of my head but i'd hope the actual challenges would
be a bit more interesting. However, there are certain rules they should
all abide by..

Reincs come with a time limit.. so the Reinc is a temporary one.

The rewards would also have to be compelling enough to convince people
to go through the effort.

anyway. an idea.

While I do not completely disregard the idea, I am against temporary reincs,
but if we could enhance the idea a bit, it could be viable, challenges of
varying difficulty and only 1 can be active at any given time. Completing one
would allow starting a new one and progress would be lost on reinc.
Examples of challenges:
1. Kill 10 named dragons
2. Lead 100m exp for your character
3. Kill X amount of monsters of race Y
4. Explore 50% of batmud (might be difficult since it would require separate
explore flag)
5. Kill a given list of named monsters
6. You get the idea

It might give some oldbies incentive to play more and not run the same few
monsters over and over again. It could give incentive to newer players to
explore things they regularly do not do and mayhaps teach them new adspects of
the game. Is such system needed, not necessarily, could it be cool? yes it
could.

Oh yeah add example number 7. Deliver a list of following items: torsomaker,
dagger of last rites, crystallic amazon battlesuit, sable axe, Black King
crown, frost medallion etcetc. Adding a voluntary eqsink in the game is always
a bonus for the economy. If those need to done in a single reinc, then be it,
but the list should vary

Actually when i thought about it for 2 seconds, Rebirth is more or less
a prexisting form of what was originally intended. The reason i was
forcing so many restrictions on it was to inhibit Highbies from blazing
through any challenges. The idea of playing something for however many
months and then losing all progress would have to have a strong incentive..
that is, a good reward along the lines of what Rebirth has to offer.

Ironically, i've never rebirthed and don't feel the reward is worth the
sacrifice so i'm not surprised the idea of lost effort isn't appealing.

What you're suggesting sounds a bit more like Achievements which work as well
for adding incentive to play or to try new things. I'm pretty sure i've heard
the idea suggestd before..and it's a good one. Shin's daily tasks work on
similar lines but something more long term could be a lot of fun. Again they
would be hard to regulate in order to give them an appeal to all players and
not be abuseable.. but definitely doable.
