What are ship mines?
-- Anti-ship weapons you can deploy from your own ship. They will go off when
another ship, or yours, runs into them. They have a variety of nasty effects
that are intended to scare of pursuing ships.

Why do I need them?
-- You don't. But if you're being chased by pirates all the time, or if you
want to improve your piracy, they might be new and exciting. Just put them in
places you expect a ship to pass through and watch the fun from a safe
distance. Or, dump them overboard while being chased and, hopefully, get them
to back off.

Wait, won't that mean people will just flood the areas around harbors with
mines? We'll explode as soon as we leave port!
-- That's technically possible, but very difficult. Mines have a limited time
of use, after which they sink, so using them out of immediate danger generally
means you're wasting your time. Also, a single mine should neither cripple nor
destroy your ship, nor kill the captain. A lot in a row is a different story,
and if you sail into 10 mines in a row, you get what you deserve.

So what can they do?
-- Information about ship mines is available in a book sold by the gnome
tinkerer in the Mirror Mines.

How do I get mines?
-- The same gnome tinkerer also sells the mine deployers. At this time, a ship
can have only one at a time. We'll see how that goes for now. Once you have a
deployer, you can make and fill mines with various effects. I personally like
guided squid mines, but they're the hardest to make.

Send any ideas, suggestions, comments, and of course bugs with mines to me.
Melemkor might want to know too, but he'll just forward them to me anyhow.
