I'm going to move to a more authorization based system for controlling ships.
That is to say, instead of being locked in to my choice that a ship's mate can
summon the ship, but the ship's bos'n can't, <you> (the captain) get to set
that cutoff!

I'm going to test the waters a bit with the two authorizations that popped up
immediately: summoning the ship (rank based), and using the vault (name
based). By name based, I mean that you can decide exactly which players can
use the vault, whether they're on the list of officers or not. Of course,
someone has to summon the ship and let them on board first...

Feel free to drop me a line with other recommendations for auth-based commands
(rescue perhaps?).

Added 2 more authorizations:
rescue (name based): these players can ask the crew to rescue them onto the
ship.
signal (rank based): these players <if they are in the sailor guild!!!> may
signal for your ship to come to them.

Feel free to send in more ideas for auth slots.

P.S. You need to dock/resummon to see the new auth entries; you need to
quit/re-enter/reboot to be able to use the new sailor signal.
