I am personally looking to donate again. Thought I might see if others were
also like-minded, since we have a ton of 'new' boons to pick from. If you are
interested, drop me a tell. Hopely we can put together a large enough pool to
get a good rate. Donate date would Dec 1st, could possibly change.
Perhaps Blayke could be talked into handling the cash since more people trust
him & he has done it before. =P

How do donate pools work?

Well when you donate in larger quantities, you get a larger increase in the
amount of tps. In other words, the bigger the pool, the larger the amount of
tps. One person would be designated to collect all the funds, and donate as a
total and distribute the tps in proportion to the amount donated by each
person.

Was there any movement on this? I'd love to donate...but was under the
impression divvying up tps was rather difficult.

Donate pools are a legacy from a time when the only way to transfer
funds from abroad was costly, bureaucratic and slow international
bank transfers. It obviously made sense then to pool donations into
just one transfer and thereby only have to pay the transfer costs
once.

Nowadays you can do near-instantaneous donates over paypal without
the bureaucratic hassle of doing a physical visit to the bank to
sign the transfer papers. It also generates less work on our side
to accept and process donates via paypal. Hence the reason for
international donate pools is largely obsolete.

We also have not changed the taskpoint rates to match inflation or
anything like that. Hence unless there is some absolutely exceptional
reason for why we should accept and reward pooled donates, I would
be inclined to phase them out and suggest that people use the online
donate system instead: http://www.bat.org/batry/donate
