Dearest blog, I finally have some spare time at work to catch you up on the
last two weeks of my life. Work has been extremely busy, and has been pretty
taxing of my time and energies. Even after a 3 day 4th of July weekend, where
I had done little more than rest and play video games for a few days, I'm
still having trouble staying energetic at the end of the day. Unfortunately,
the 4th fell on a Monday this year, and since we had to work on Tuesday, no
one felt like going out to watch the fireworks show. Ah well, I didn't feel
like driving in that snarl of traffic anyways, since I was the only sober
person at Wade's. So the 4th was fairly bland, but the prior weekend was a
bit more interesting. That was my 15th year class reunion.

Let me start off by saying I had a blast! It was really good to catch up with
several people I hadn't seen in 5 or 10 or 15 years. We managed to have about
half of my graduating class (58 graduating) show up for the reunion. Just
like the line out Grosse Point Blank, "everyone looked bloated". I was
greatly surprised at how many guys had lost most of their hair already. I
never considered myself "popular" in high school, but I sure felt that way
during the evening. Everyone was quite warm and enthusiastic when greeting
with me. Evidently, being single and male at my "advanced" age prompted the
"Are you gay question?" , twice in the evening. I reassured them, that no, I
wasn't gay, I just had a busy life so far that kept me from getting married at
18. ,) The other fun response was hearing from a couple gals that if they
weren't married already, they would be dating me yet that night. *laugh*
Evidently, I was the "one that got away" in some of their books. The strange
part of the evening was having one gal who had her live-in-boyfriend there at
the reunion, come over and blatantly hit on me, trying to kiss my neck and
hold my hand, etc. I'm just not used to having a situation like that happen.
I remained the perfect gentleman and did not encourage her affections and
remained polite. Fortunately for me, she got so drunk an hour or so later,
that she was eventually driven home with her passed out boyfriend by a
classmate.

Mental note: in 5 years for the 20 year reunion, if I don't have a date/wife,
I'm going to hire a hot 20 year old to show up as my date, and then taunt a
few of the guys that "my date was still a fetus when we graduated!". Ah yes,
I am quite evil. So again, it was a fun, a little bizarre evening with my old
high school buds. What was so sad was that most everyone had gone home by
9pm. I guess you can't be young forever. I hate to even admit this dear
blog, but it was a bit of an ego boost receiving so many compliments that
evening from so many. Who knew? I guess the opinions of the people you grow
up with for 12 years+ really do matter some. Live and learn!

So this coming weekend, it will be around 90 degrees, humid, and I'll be out
picking this year's blackberry crop out of the timber. Not exactly looking
forward to it this year for some reason, but that should change once I get out
there and get picking. Just hoping I don't get chewed up too much by the
brush and bugs. Also, Mom's birthday is on Monday, so I'm sure we'll do a
little something for her as well this weekend. The following weekend will be
the Delaware County Fair, and that should be my last "committed" weekend until
my Dad's birthday weekend which will come in August.

I had better wrap up and get back to work. Laters blog!
