I flew all the way here. And, boy, are my arms tired! It's been a busy couple of weeks. I've been doing some writing and prep work for the on-going rpg I'm in. I also put in a bunch of work for a weekend one-shot and reunion of old friends. I actually put a bunch of effort into the one-shot character, much more than I would have ordinarily put in for just a one-shot game. I used it as an opportunity to work on some of my stylistic writing skills. The other reason is that I know the gm puts a lot of thought and effort into his games and his campaigns hold a lot of memories for me. His fantasy world, which is based in Tolkien lore, has a lot of depth and history to it. The work on the one-shot paid off in a variety of ways. I had a great time, more fun than I was even expecting considering that the house host was in my mail delete filter for being too rude to read. (He was not the guy running the game.) More significantly for me, the gm complimented me on my writing which was very encouraging. I respect his opinion a lot, especially about this since he was both an english major, now lawyer, and I know from experience that he is a very good writer. He also wanted to name his next pet after one of my first characters in his campaigns that really influenced many of the things that have occurred in his world. That's soooo cute! :) So it was a busy weekend. Friday night I went to a concert double bill. The Brad Mehldau Trio started it, followed by the Bill Frisell Trio. All told I enjoyed the first more, I felt energized by intermission. The second was ... interesting. I think it may have worked better in a more intimate venue, but I didn't find the music as compelling. Though watching the bassist almost make love to his instrument on stage was amusing. He was also very cute. I enjoyed watching people who were quite obviously in love with what they were doing. Saturday morning started early at 5am. I was on the road by 6am and arrived to the game by about 8:30. From there it was pretty much constant action, in and out of game. It was great seeing people some of whom I haven't seen in a couple of years or more. The group is great, there were of course a few in character blow ups, but fortunately it did not move out of the game. (Having been in a game where some in character arguments left the game for real life, I was glad that everyone stayed civil and even work as a group for the most part!!! I didn't want some of those bad old memories drudged up.) The game went into late Saturday night/Sunday morning, adjourned for a few hours of sleep then finished middle of the afternoon Sunday. I watch a little football then hit the road for home. Once home I had a hyper kitten to attend to and some relaxing and sleep to catch up on before the work week started. The only down side this week has been that an art class I was looking forward to has been cancelled. Blah! But I still have a nice concert to look forward to on Thursday. Whee. Feeling energized and motivated, albeit still a bit sleep deprived.
