Hello everyone, I am quite new to batmud but have played a heavily modified
DIKU mud for many years. As a new player I've received lots of assistance and
even a bit of advice. So first off, thank you for the warm welcome!
The reason for my post is that I recently joined the Spider guild as a
result of overall stubbornness after being advised against it. While I don't
mind a steep learning curve. The absence of many help files, with regards to
the guild and various abilities related to it, has me at least a bit worried
that it is in some sort of early development phase. Is this the case or am I
just in for a very bloody crawl toward higher levels? If my future as a Spider
is fated for disaster, would anyone have any other suggestions for an evil
religious human looking to enjoy some batmud?
On the off chance that I've already made a fun choice, any advice for a
young spider?
Thanks,
Hoyt
Some guilds like spiders and tigers used to be "secret" guilds that nobody
talked about and there were no official help files or skill/spell lists and so
on. This is not the case anymore and those guilds are listed with complete
skills and spells in the website help files just like all the other guilds.
But there are still many skills and spells that lack informative text in their
help files. If that is intentional or just that nobody has gotten around to
update them the last 5 years or so I don't know. It is what it is however, and
those skills and spells aren't that hard to figure out. So a few days of
playing around with it and trying it out should explain most to you.
That being said, I also have to agree with the others telling you that spiders
aren't a good standalone choice. While you do get the basic combat skills,
they are limited to low skill levels. Dodge, parry, combat sense and so on
caps at 60 or so, which is not nearly good enough to be a standalone fighting
guild. You will struggle alot with those low skill levels, even against
reasonably sized monsters. As a new player it will also be hard for you to get
access to decently sized demons. Getting a good demon requires you to
sacrifice quite valuable items, and even then it is very random what kind of
demon you get. You can end up sacrificing 20 very valuable items without
getting a single "really good" demon. And buying a really good demon from
another player costs tons as well.
Spider guild is an exceptionally fun "secondary" guild tho. Paired with evil
priests or tigers for example it offers alot of extra stuff.
As a newbie/lowbie evil_religious player I would much rather advice you to
look into disciple+tzarakk. It offers good fighting skills and a mount to help
you even more.
