The flow of magic is by no means a single direction. Just as with heat, it tends to go where it is needed most, but it can be encouraged or hindered. While lifeless objects contain only a small amount of magical energy compared to a living being, they can be coaxed to hold much more, even an entire spell. Channellers use orbs for their perfect shape, and can store any spell they know well. Sadly, the strain on the orb when it releases the magic is too much for it to bear, and it will not survive when the spell is later 'invoke'd.
