Balanced Alternative Techniques ry has ordered new hardware for the
core services of BatMUD (the game itself). While our current server
hardware is still quite adept at its task of running the game, we
have some time ago reached the point that upgrading the systems feels
like the next natural step (inside a technology cycle).

As you may remember, we have been actively testing AMD's Opteron
technology, thus, the next server hardware will consist the following:

o Tyan's Transport TA26 rack mountable 2U-server platform
o 2x AMD 64-bit Opteron 250 processors (2.4GHz)
o 4x 1GB of Reg ECC DDR400 (PC3200)
o several Seagate 37GB Cheetah 15.3k hard drives (U320)
o 1+1 redundant power

The actual setup of the system will be somewhat similar to what is
currently displayed under "help hardware".

With this upgrade we'll be able to kick in more power for the MUD and
also dedicate some (old) hardware machinery to other tasks (such as
the www.bat.org -site).

The Estimated Time of Arrival is between 3-7 weeks.

by running yet another copy of batmud. End of story.
