I Reinced turnip which means i've finally been able to sample guilds other
than Mage, psi and Rifters. Newness helps fuel the motivation but.. after
seeing other guilds, I can't help but be impressed with the design of
Riftwalkers. Keep in mind, I have a pretty low sampling of all the guilds
out there so.. if i'm neglecting the best guild in game, forgive me.
There are any number of functional guilds, designed around a specific purpose.
Rifters are to give solo capacity to an otherwise non-soloable background.
Compare them to civmage, where its a straight.. pay levels for getting
spells. The point is, Rifters serve a purpose but still have a lot of
character.
So they're useful.. but they're also incredibly cheap in terms of level cost.
I believe they're the cheapest FULL guild that you can take anywhere. To
this point, I think most guilds should have more 25 level options. I love
civilized in that it has many 25 lvl options to take. This gives you the
opportunity to max 3 guilds rather than having to have 2 and a mostly and
i find guilds are the interesting aspect of the game. They fuel my motivation
to keep playing.. not to mention the chance to play around with different
combinations.
What's next to ramble about? The look and introduction to the guild. Finding
the joining spot is a bit of a rite of passage but it helps to build a bit
of community around it. I've helped any number of newbs find the orb so
they can play around in Rifters. Aesthetically the actually guild is a bit
dry. There are other guilds where it's more than a couple rooms but i'd
ignore this in that the riftspace- interaction to chasing down your entities
is very involved. This leads into the short grind.
After you're committed to a guild, a good guild should have short, medium
and long term grind. Hardly flattering calling it that so maybe appeal would
be better.
In the short term, catching your entities and getting used to them keeps
you busy for a bit. Get used to the feel of blasting and maintaining..
finding them weapons etc. and which particular entity is the one you want
to stick with.
So once you fall into a rhythm, there's always a risk of getting bored.
You've pushed your entities up to the point where it's taking longer and
longer to level them. While this is happening, you'll start completing
tasks. Another nice feature of the guild is there are.. somewhat well
implemented quest-tasks. On the downside, the difficulty level for these
tasks is a bit of a mix. For a guild intended as a soloing option, the
easy or introductory level tasks include a couple that require highbie or
experienced parties. Most of the rewards for the tasks are 'quality of life'
things which make being a rifter that much easier. To mitigate this,
Rifters tend to be pretty open about letting a newbie backrow when others
are completing the task.
Anyway. I found there are enough things to do that midrange grind was still
fresh and interesting. Stretching to long term, you have the goal of
naming your entities (Owch), building them to a formidable size (check top
kills), finishing as many tasks as possible (good luck) and getting your
magic entity.
pretty long winded here but.. all in all a great guild.
