please make creating, supporting and owning of those lame cheat/walktrough,spoi
ling."newbie-help" www-sites related to batmud ILLEGAL
For example maroon.com/bat includes many area maps and quest walktroughs, that
really spoils the game out
the site I mentioned is not the only one, there are many more and might be
some more dangerous sites with "eq information" too.. so why I am writing here
is that creators/users of those cheating sites should get removed or atleast
be forced to remove the stuff about BatMUD from their sites

why so?
Mostly newbies are the largest group that search secret information from those
wwww site and the sites might include stuff that newbies shouldn't be know
anything about ....those cheating sites kinda ruin the game by producing and
encouraging lazy newbies who start to whine immediately when they have to do
something by them selves and when they don't get all the suffeli free on

That would include removing twomi's site, which is hosted under bat.org... so
how realistic you think your request is?

i want www.bat.org to be removed, it tells too much about the game.

Not going to happen. I think the amount of negative votes on your
post is sufficient proof that this is hardly a major issue - on
the contrary, many feel that the sites are benefitial to the game,
and it saves us from having to implement similar functionality.
It's also a matter of freedom of expression on webpages that aren't
the property of BatMUD.

This was tried once by gore about 5-6 years ago when he said he will
remove/punish anyone who won't remove their site and Dryad said she would not
ever remove her site and soon the idea just fizzled away, not sure why Gore or
admins changed their mind on this, but I remember Welwood called Gore a nazi
and welwood got banned. :D
But it's
unrealistic, secret databases are all over, some requiring password to access,
so I doubt it could be enforced. And most of those sites have bad information,
if you know anything about eq/quests you know lots of those sites have
conflicting data and don't even understand the basics of how some eq works.

What changed my mind was actually going through the
content of those sites, and realizing that most of
it:
a) wasn't uptodate
b) wasn't very detailed
c) didn't include the areas with really cryptic
things or killing instructions for mobs

So in the end I figured that the benefit of such sites
(including making players happy) far outweighs the bad
side, and decided to not be a "nazi" about it.

That being said, the areas are still the IPR of their
respective creators, so publishing information that
totally ruins the goal of an area, or attempts to make
direct profit ("pay to get access to instructions how
to do area/mob XYZ") will not be tolerated.

Translation: Someone who is not me now knows how to do an eq mob I used to
own, and I am not happy that I went there and found it dead.

Maybe the coders of those monsters/areas/secrets dont want _every_one_ to read
how their quest/monster/equipment is done.
Enuff said.
