I just spent what felt like an eternity flipping through all kinds of flames,
ideas-wanted, bs and whatnot in the 'general' newsgroup. The whole idea of
having different newsgroups becomes pointless unless people learn to use them
in a proper manner. I know I am not the only one frustrated about this.
Therefore I suggest, as probably many before me, that efforts be taken to
reduce the amount of newsarticles published under the wrong newsgroup.

I think you are over stating the problem. I just looked at the general group
and article number 1100 was posted August 26 2004. The most recent article in
general is 1166. Now I believe I am correct that each new post and reply gets
the next sequential article number. If I am correct, that would mean there
were 66 posts in 41 days. That is less than 2 posts per day, so even if half
of them were off topic, it was a measely 33 posts that one would have to read
in one sitting IF they had not read news in 41 days.

I recently wrote a 'help newsgroups' that should hopefully clear up any
confusion about what the various newsgroups are for. If it becomes
evident that some player is repeatedly or intentionally posting stuff
banning their newspostings from that particular group or all groups,
as we see fit.
