I guess we all understand the idea of eq-naming tunes but here's a slight
formula to clarify the effect from puny mortals point of view:
Author referring:
wizards : tunemakers and mortal's personal codeslaves
highbie': players with money, eq and eqmaking capabilities
midbies : players who have some of those
newbies : with none above except money from dbridge sentries :DDDD
Price and example eq will not be 100% exact so don't start getting into
details when posting replies. And I like using weapons as examples, neener.
Slenders/kurgans/insert midbie weapon here are going for ridiculously low
prices since 'highbies' and 'midbies' do not want to buy that kind of eq for
'just in case' since those have no names - no-one wants to invest into
possibly breaking, mc-demon stealing or otherwise butt-raped eq. Hence, they
do not bid, and take a lot of power away from the 'bidding' contest. Agreed,
midbie eq is not the problem since my eqnaming would cost a lot more than the
weapon itself, so lets move to next example, with a slightly more costy
weapon.
-----------
Highbie A wants to reinc, and decides to sell, lets say, waino sword. Usually
that piece of eq should go at least for 4m, so he decides to test this by
putting it to sales mb 3m names are Plr A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H and I. None of them
wants it since they already have it or better, so public sale is in order.
Mb 3m generates no interest. Why is this ? Since all highbies/midbies with
that amount of money will NOT want to invest into (copy&paste the comment from
above). Generating 4m money by soloing or doing money mobs takes a LOT more
effort and time compared to possible gain. On the other hand, newbies don't
have that kind of amounts of money.
So the sellers faces two choices. Drop the mb a lot or wait eternity if
someone might buy it - we've seen what happens to eqprice if you decide to
take a risk and put 'mb 1k'. Perhaps wizards have not been following
sales-channel lately.
BUT, if one could (I call my idea 'permanent claim') the item for
HIM/HER/ITself (== no other names, no claims anymore possible) it would get
rid of the naming problem and perhaps people would start buying high-priced eq
since they COULD get the namebonus benefits.
----------
PS. If someone has enough persistence to rape money mobs to actually buy a
torsomaker or whatever shit you've in mind, he/she/it has really earned it,
making money is perhaps the most boring thing in the mud.
Summa Summarum : I VOTE FOR PERMA-CLAIM (tm) :DDDDDD
