Actually, historically banks charged customers for the safekeeping of
their money. The concept of paying interest wasn't introduced until
much later. Heck, in the old days Christianity saw it as a sin to
generate interest or as they saw it "making money from nothing".

So how about it, maybe banks should charge players for the safekeeping? ;)

Actually, they already do.
1) You cannot withdraw money from the bank without paying.
2) You don't get reimbursed for bank robbers.

To comment your post: If some people who haven't read their Don Rosa's or Da
Vinci Code or any history, the reason why christianity had so much to say on
what banks can do is because the whole 'modern' bank system was developed by
knights templar.

I don't know if the reason for paying interest being sin is because of knight
templars 'bank' didn't want to pay any or is it vice versa, but back in the
late middle age bank and church were run by the same organisation.
