This argument seems to circulate once every couple of years or so. But I'll
put my two cents in anyway. Boons and more specifically, TPs are a reward. In
general, that reward is broken into two categories. The first is to reward
players for contributing to the game directly (by reporting bugs, reporting
cheaters, etc). The second is to reward players for contributing to the game
by enhancing its equipment. The latter is done by soliciting donations. TPs
are awarded for the latter because Bat wants to say thanks to players for
donating and helping to continue the game because without donations, Bat would
not be able to evolve, especially in today's world where it seems that
technology is moving at a speed where a machine is obsolete after 3 years if
not sooner. Bat needs to evolve, and it needs donations, and while players
should not donate with the expectation that they will receive a reward, it is
sometimes nice to receive something for stepping up and giving when others
might not be able to or don't decide to. It also encourages others, who might
otherwise not contribute to at least consider it. And to people who don't
donate, some can't, but others that can. If you enjoy the game that you are
playing and have some extra cash and donations happen to be open, why not
donate? In my humble opinion, rewarding the people that do is a nice way of
saying thanks, and if game balance is sacrificed some in the best interest of
game continuance, then I would choose the latter and try to address the former
in other ways. Again, my cents.
