With a loud squishing sound, a cart labeled 'xxxx' (empty) melts away,
returning to where it originally came from.
finger xxxx: No such player (xxxx) Perhaps carts of players that don't exist
should be removed.

AFAIK carts already disappear back into the ether after a certain amount
of time with no love by their owners anyway, so at most you'd have
a week or 2 of ownerless carts sitting around.
Sorry, I wasn't clear enough and caused confusion. Carts don't disappear into
nothing, if they did it would be a hardship on merchants as they're very
expensive items, they get stored for when players reinc back into merchant
guild or return to game.
These carts are visible once a boot (I believe), in the cart storage room
where they all melt away as I previously described.
What I'm suggesting is carts belonging to non-existent players should be
removed from the game. I hope I stated this clear enough this time that I have
not confused any players.

I'm still confused... are you a lesbian? or a man?
