players can get a small stat bonus caused by collective mudwide activity that
builds throughout the summer, up to +5 each str/int/wis/dex/con.

How do you increase the stat bonus? Well, that's something you'll have to
figure out for yourselves. But many players should be able to contribute in
some way.

Progress can be tracked, and the bonus can be obtained, in Mortis' room. At
time of writing the bonus is +0 across the board, but it should increase with
trial and error.
