Intelligence: capacity for learning, reasoning, understanding, and similar
forms of mental activity; aptitude in grasping truths, relationships, facts,
meanings, etc.
Briefly, we will discuss Nazrix's ability to display intelligence over the
last, oh, say, 2 weeks. Why two weeks? Because that was the time he was
channelbanned from the newbie channel by a "foolish" and/or "newbie" wizard.
It happened to be Juggelo, whom most of us know and respect as a dedicated
coder concerned with the average player here. Juggelo _did_ inform Nazrix of
his indefinite ban of the newbie channel for spamming. Whether Nazrix saw the
message and chose to ignore it, or never even bothered to look, is irrelevant.
What does matter is that, while his most recent post portrays him as helping
the newbies, he didn't notice his channel commands weren't going through for a
whole fortnight. Maybe that's because he didn't bother to check if people were
getting his messages, maybe because he wasn't using the channel to help
newbies at all, or maybe because he was not reading the channel "last" looking
for newbies' questions to answer. Again, irrelevant, none of these are showing
high marks in his favor.
You'd think Nazrix would be used to the channelban setup by now. After all,
eh's been banned from at least one channel for about 10% of his time here in
the last two years (that's as far back as I bothered to look), over half that
time by arches. Evidently, this qualifies as banning everyone on newbie
channel who wants to help. I did some checking, and it's mostly (a) spammers
followed by (b) finnish on open channels. "Helping newbies" was never one of
the reasons. Kind of counter-intuitive, wouldn't you say, to either remove
newbie channel users or the entire channel itself, for people trying to help
newbies? Rather than clearing out those who fill the channel with useless
garbage (_not_ including finnish there) so that they can actually get and read
the help they need?
I had a brief chat with ancient, clueless BMOA about being a newbie helper. In
60 seconds, he showed he knew more about use of the newbie channel than Nazrix
has shown in the lifespan of his character(s). He also suggested that newbie
helpers, too, be allowed to ban Nazrix (and I guess other players) from the
newbie channel. I am strongly considering this, because it's become clear that
giving him a simple, direct message (such as "You have been channelbanned for
spamming the newbie channel") isn't working on some of our population. Until
then, because he has proven that he
-- cannot put posts in an appropriate group, such as CAPSLOCKS RANTINGS to
flame,
-- cannot remember how channelban works after at least 10x,
-- continues to either deliberately grossly misstate the facts to play the
martyr on open channels, or fails to pick them up when presented with them
openly,
-- claiming to be a fan of Buffy: the Vampire Slayer while missing the point
about vampires not being allowed into people's houses without an invitation
(and yes, I am still curious how you can miss that when it's in every other
friggin episode)
-- and most importantly for now, failure to remember that "help politeness"
refers to such posts on open groups as "Remove newbie channel since you are
stupid"
the rest of BatMUD can go through the next week without his interferance. If
he chooses to return, further violations of clearly posted rules you've been
warned about multiple times will result in yet another banish, probably
followed with multiple IP bans.
This message is logged and out in the open. Nazrix, I hope this is clear
enough for you, as there will be no further warnings.
