This is my story.

The tale begins in the, by the time, frozen and chilly land of Sweden, in
February 1998 i seem to recall. One of my best friends known to me as Timmy,
had started at Bat just some days earlier under the name Morninglight. He had
told me about this textstyle fantasy rpg with more
than 200 players online every single day. Gee i thought, another mud.

I just recently left Zombiemud after some 20 days of gametime. Since i was
young and fairly immature at the time (lel), i had made a great number of foes
in Zombiemud, mostly highbies that pkilled me often, because i was such a
pottymouth, and i decided to start bat without making much noise about it. I
had to pick a new name, so that my foes from Zombie couldnt recognize me as
easy. Oh yeah my ZombieMUD name was Samba. So i sat for some time with the
BatMUD login screen infront of me ,wind and snow harrasing my window and
started to think.
I wanted it to be a fantasy style name, nothing that already existed, but my
slow brains couldnt come up with anything else than Gotrek, the renowmed
Warhammer Fantasy Battle dwarven hero. For those of
you that have no clue about that game, lets say Gotrek is a dwarven hero with
a HUGE axe, slaying all kinds of naughty creatures.

So when i had made my character Gotrek, i read the helpfiles, didnt make
ANY noise on channels, and started to hoard exp in batcity church and in
newbie zoo. After a while a strange and seemingly kind mortal named
Continuity(might have been Demerzel) invited me to the Swe-
channel and i started to get some friends there, Innuendo and Yornh were
newbies and i often saw myself team up with them, and i got to know Orcrulez!,
the mad orc-defender with over 15M total
exp and two slenders, which was a shitload compared to my meager amount...
After a while , i considered Orcrulez my \'best\' friend on batmud , and we
have had much fun during these days. Other friends on the swechannel was
Ruffneck, Falchion, Demerzel, Matriam, Avienda, Smeagol and Desos. So i teamed
up with these fellows, and of course Morninglight, who not much later gave
mudding. As i said, i was making exp in silence , only chatting to the swedes,
and i think they started to
like me, cause somehow i couldnt manage to keep up being silent on the
swechannel and ive been spamming ever since.
Still\' ive made my first 20m in about 3 or 4 months, and i knew now that
Continuity was a respected man here, and that helped alot, he gave me my first
chest and my first eq, the Slicer Axe. Oh i still recall hacking helpless
monsters with that rocking axe, hihi.

I kept up exping and exploring , this time as a full druid with navigator
levels(druids rocked with WF and runic heal back then), i got parties with
several big players,Shiva,Alftan and Klar are the ones worth mentioning. Me
and Skie used to twoman exp for hours with this druid and his uncountable
tank-reincs.I got a Tiamat Amulet from Continuity which drew alot of attention
to me, and i think Backlash paid 2.5M mithril for it,
which was a HUGE amount of cash at the time beeing. So i made my way , from
that cash, by selling eq with 50-100k overprices and earned about 5m in 3
months, and i started to collect my first \'midbie style eqset\', which
consisted of some +dam, a Soth maul and a little candy, namely the K\'purian
battlemace, which much later went traded to Wermo and got lost in the jaws of
armageddon.

I won 123 TPs at some point on the tplottery, which was a big turnover in my
career, since i started to play at the time donations were closed. This
lottery win + reporting bugs got my my first full boon. By now i decided to
make all the lq:s i needed for level 60, so i travelled far south down
to the Elven village, since i\'ve heard that the king was in great need of
help to find a certain amulet. I scanned the village , and found a secret
basement, with a black portal. I asked my friends for help and before i knew
anything, i had seven people wanting to help me.I braveley stepped into the
portal and found myself facing a three-headed hellhound, and you all might
remember how this this story ended up, were i end up in the purgatory
(compiled by Grismh(ACCIDENTLOL))

And the story did not end the 26th of April 99,as we all thought, just a few
days before the legendary \'Boatcon Armageddon part 1\', which was also my
18th birthday. I had earned myself the highest rank in the mud, a wizard\'s.
Started to code my first area with my mentor Souc, i got tired
of coding and decided to remort, which was stupid ,but seems i only learn
things the hard way...

After the remort, i started to make exp as a healer again, really funny to be
a low level healer and outtick mages with ~30 levels more than myself :).

As a healer, i made exp quite fast with my, at this point, highbie friends.
Exp and exp and exp, and suddently i was a level 72 DruidHealerNav.
Lost my eq in some crash, quit playing for a month, went to some con,
boozed with Gore all night, and he restored it, only that we forgot to close
my chests, so when i woke up the next morning the eq was gone again,
irony at its best.

At this point , Zin opened the Nuns guild. Woo, i reinced right away, just to
find that nuns truly kicked ass! After some time in the guild, i went on a
nun task called \'Set of White Rose\'. The Abbess Abigail wanted me to find
certain pieces of EQ to rebuild the long lost set of white rose.
One of the pieces was \'The vampiric sash of Yavie\', which i found out after
much exploring(yelling on the wanted channel?),was being held by a vampire
mistress in the old, damned nun convent. After many hours of fighting this
cunt of a vampire, it finally decides to die and to my great fucking
amusement, it avoids death! AAAAAAAAAAARGH!

After this i was so frustrated with the fucking code of this monster, i sent a
flame post:
------------

Subject: Zin

Zin your code should not exist.

When the archwizard Gront read this , he decided to remove me.
I was working quite much these days, and i didnt find the time to log in and
apologize to Zin. The few times i logged in Zin was either idle or ld. I asked
Gront (whined rather, I\'m Gotrek) about the outcome of this story, Gront was
not sure about the handling of my removal, but he couldnt make up his mind,
and after some days of whining he said that he had remmed the backup files of
my char. I got ahold of Zin the very same day and apologized, he accepted it
and said that they would
restore me, butbut backup files gone. Gront refused to give me anything back.

But then again, my much beloved chests and safes were untouched by the Wrath
of Gront. So there i was again, with my eq hoard and no exp :))

This time, after i gathered 65m, i reinced to a satyr-psi, and made my way as
a psi to 310m, and one day i was so utterly bored that i rebirthed with ~180%
komd. (Mostly because we failed a Tiamat).

Made my dream-reinc of all times, the Vampire-Conju-Channu-SS-Spellmax
mongoloid with sera cape and shard (courtesy of Ewige), with some lololol
2450spellmax, nref sera cape only give +2000 ticks. Made some eq-ss, killed
everything except asmo (hello lame design) and Burgle. My last reinc was a
Gargoyle Crimson, just because everyone whined about how poor crimsons were in
this game, and proved that crimsons rock with some pretty fast kills of most eq
mobs the game has (rescue anyone?)

Frustration strikes again, flamed Shardik on christmas eve of 2005, pissed
drunk, got removed, and the saga ends.

So after 8 years of playing, numerous grades and girls lost, i ended up with a
couple of very good RL friends, the whole SWE+ crew, but Ruffneck, Merioli,
Desos and Nina being the finest fruits, couple of megs cash, some eq and a
level 18 gnoll.
And least but not forgotten, a towel from Gore with the BatMUD logo =)

I would like to thank everyone in this great game who enjoyed or hated me, it
was a blast, and the things i will remember the most are the many conventions
i went to.

Thanks, your Gotrek.
