Do the existing standards suck or don't they exist
or what is the reason we chose to do a proprietary?

Are we trying to protect the client from being
used by other muds or what? (which should be done
in my opinion :) But if we publish the specs...

Someone please explain, I'm confused. I know
nothing of any current standards and for me
the word 'proprietary' is a swear word :)
Check out http://www.wurmonline.com/

They have a marvelous MMRPG world in a java client. The genre didnt really
suit me but its a great world to try out. I expect it wont be half as
sophisticated as this as first to keep telnet functionality but a step in that
direction. On the Java side there are lots of standards around OpenGL 3D 3D
sound. https://jogl.dev.java.net/ https://joal.dev.java.net/. Not sure there
are any RPG back end libs as such yet tho I expect there are some in
developement.
