Someone recently claimed that the leaders merely rouse the rabble to hysteria
and they follow blindly. Well, the primary role of a leader is to PREDICT the
future, and through this prediction, pursue a course of action that will steer
his people in a favorable direction. Leaders do not merely concern themselves
with the present such would be a simple task. It is extremely easy to say at
this moment that Iraq is not a threat to us. Of course not. But the future
is far more ominous. And here in America we have put into place leaders that
for better or worse are looking forward into the future. This is thankful
since you people in Europe seem to be only concerned with the moment. This
is a small way of thinking. You look ahead and see thousands of
possibilities, "There's too many possibilities, I can't choose" you say to
yourself. "He may be bad for us, or he may not, better wait and see and then
I'll do something about it" you say. This is a foolish view, far better to be
decisive, to make your decision now and head off a disaster down the line then
allow a situation to worsen. Now I would like to pause and argue our position
from the other end, that is, weakening the opposition's side. What, if any,
are the valid arguments against going to war? For one, people always say to
me, "it will cost lives." Yes this is true but all great endeavors cost
lives. This one will not be unlike any other, and because of our overwhelming
military advantage now, the cost to lives will be greatly minimized. We
expect this war to take one month. There will be a minimum of ground
casualties, and the occupation and rebuilding of Iraq will be overseen by
native ground forces supported by American Air and Naval power. As usual,
America will spend every opportunity to keep civilian casualties to as close
to zero as possible, while our enemies seek to maximize these same casualties.
Afterwards, America will spend considerable amounts of money rebuilding and
re-educating Iraq, (after all, this is a country that has one of the largest
oil reserves in the world, an asset that given time and proper management,
will make the Iraqis very, very rich).
