The "Holy land" has been a coveted piece of land for a long time,
going back long prior to the crusades. Recent rulers include both
the Ottomans, the British empite and the Israeli nation.
The Palestine people were promised the land by the British in the
early stages of the last century, but as Zionism flourished throughout
Europe (especially post-world war 2 when european nations felt guilt
for not interfering in the holocaust sooner), the Palestine people were
forgotten and the resolution to approve the nation of Israel was quickly
approved.

Also the part where Jews gave England huge sums of money during ww2 had
something to do with the fact that they promised the same land to two nations,
the jews and palestinians. Originally palestinian land was not ment to be
independant but part of Trans-Jordania(someting like that). But when they gave
about half of the land, promised to palestinias, to jews the war was
inevitable.
