I'd like to quote Alder's plan (he quotes Reino Lehväslaiho or whatever the
name of that author is). Whoever thinks that it's all about manpower and
equipment, think of WW2 and Soviets vs. Finland. It's not the only time it has
happened but most well known to Finns at least. The quote is quite
intensified but it sort of summarizes the essence of effect of the
motivation/morale of defending forces.

">Viimeiseen puolustustaisteluun valmistautuessa divisioonamme vahvuus

which translates something like:

"When preparing to last defensive battle, our division consisted of 9000 men.
75% of them were lost due casualities during the three weeks. Against us were
180000 men infantry, 50000 elite soldiers from the imperial army corps in the
middle, 600 tanks and 1000 aeroplanes. All we had has was a rusty booty T-34,
but it had damn tough men inside."

Miracles happen. Curiously enough there seem to happen more miracles in wars
than
on average.
