Here's an idea i came across while discussing with a friend the diminished
playerbase and all that. We have too many continents. Areas are sprawled too
far away from each other for newer players to reach them. For example -
Mithil, Revelstone, Foul's Creche - they're so far away that newbies don't go
there. Even though it's the site of a newbie (lowbie) quest. Essentially
newbie areas. There are lots of others to name on various continents. So
newbies are kind of forced to run the same few areas around Arelium for
exp/cash/whatever. That gets tedious.
Now here's an idea - why not re-institute navtrees? Maybe it doesn't need to
be a guild. Maybe but a few navtrees on each continent - so it could be
possible to reach let's say southern laenor from western laenor etc. It would
cost the same 250gp for example. Or maybe even 500gp. But it would ease things
tremendously.
Why is the idea good for newbies? Because newbies don't have ships. Newbies
don't have mounts. They run out of ep very quickly and have very limited ways
of regening it because player cities and crystals are also far between and
mostly around civilized areas.
To log on and start to explore (which was one of the reasons for big
continents too wasn't it) only to have to spend half of your game time
regening ep.. i think that's unfair. Anyway, there's my two cents. Flame away!
Yeah, for newbies. Right. Low level people. Like, say, level 30, with age of
2y, 36d, 11h, 14 min and 44s.
Blah. Any transportation system that's just for newbies should be limited so
it's only usable for newbies, like the newbie posts for example already are.
And the longer those are usable, the more of a shock it is when they stop
working and the 'newbies' are forced to learn the concept of distance.
My two cents, newbies should, do, and always will either shape up or slip out.
It already takes some balls to play a text-based game when there's all those
graphical mmmmorpgs about elf tits out there, and making the game into a wad
of cotton to make them forget that will only lose whatever difference there
is.
And believe me, difference is good. Despite the client and navtrees and free
blowjobs, BatMUD is not and will not be world of warcraft. We have to have a
somewhat different appeal, or we end up having no appeal.

Oh yeah, and oldbies who just don't want to haul their ass around so they
whine to get navtrees back should just drop it, it's pathetic.

You seem to have missed my point totally. Maybe read every third (or fourth?)
line. You just saw the word 'navtree' and saw red. I don't NEED navtrees for
myself. I have a mount ffs. It takes me literally seconds to get from point a
to point b. So don't bother implying that I want that for myself.
Have you noticed that there are only 50 (often under) unidle players (out of
under 100) at night, when there usually has been many more? Does it strike a
bell that maybe others might not be quite so newbieUNfriendly as you are?
First impressions count for a lot. If I'd start a new character and (like I
said) would have to spend half my time regening ep, I'd quit playing this mud.
Rightfully so, because of players like you, who try to stop any
newbie-friendly initiative in its tracks. People want to have fun here. Not
'adjust to Mazzon's twisted views'. You don't have to use the trees. Actually,
they could be restricted to lvl 50 and under. And especially not for Mazzon :)
Getting back to my point: it is good for a new player to get immersed in the
real good stuff this game has to offer. Regening ep isn't one of them. Having
only a limited set of areas available nearby (which are raped repeatedly every
day, so the exprate there is crap) doesn't fit my idea of an enoyable mud
experience. Newbie areas should have either been put on ONE continent and not
too far from each other, or then navtrees instituted. That's how i see it (and
many more, judging from my first post's rating).
P.S. Actually I expected this reaction. It's a norm in this mud,
unfortunately. That every good thing is frowned upon. It happened with the
continents. It happened with race tunes. It happened with guild tunes and new
guilds. It will happen no matter what, as long as there are brainless players.
Nothing personal, just my (now three) cents.

It's a norm in all muds/mmolrpg that have been running for more than a year.
Not just this one, I'm sure the WoW kiddies have a laundry list of bitches
whenever anything gets tuned.

I don't know why you're claiming that bringing back a defunct system from the
past is a good idea, when you're saying at the same time continents (the cause
of the issue) were as well. Perhaps a better thing would be reduced ep costs
for people under 50meg (over 50meg and all that exp encumbers you). Or allow
people with bonus pool to use that for ep regens, 1k-10k from bonus pool per
point of ep regained.

Or even (and I say for the umpteenth time) GIVE US SOMETHING TO DO IN THE
OUTWORLD! That way people would care to wander the green hills, arid deserts,
giant mountains, oh and eventually get to a far away area.

You're trying to have an inteligent conversation in the flame
newsgroup. Just wanted to point that out for you Saldas.

Secondly, there has never been a large idea implemented as a direct
result of a newspost from a player alone. You'll never ever see a
change that huge actually come into the game via your newspost.

If you want to suggest things like typo messages or new race flavor
or any meaningless BS like that you might get an instant approval

keep your standards low
