I'm really dreading this free reinc, not because I'm wary of the new system,
but because it's demoralizing to lose so many skills and stats. As someone who
used the apprenticeship system since Tarmalen level 2, and who didn't plan to
reinc until reaching level 100, forced reincs really stink.
Apprenticeships are not allowed on any reinc until all safe exp has been
spent. So, a forced reinc immediately translates into a 10% worse character.
Now, in addition to that, the skill and spell costs sky rocket under the new
system. My friends always told me to level inflate, but I focussed instead on
building my skills and spells up, even though it meant lower exp rates,
because I wanted to be the best I could for my level. Using that philosophy on
this forced reinc, would result in 10 fewer levels, maybe more.
Since forced reincs seem simply to be a fact in this game, I have a few
suggestions: 1. Eliminate the apprenticeship system. It just causes resentment
during forced reincs, 2. Eliminate the No Reinc Award. Having it there creates
an unrealistic expectation that the feat could be accomplished by a
disciplined player. 3. Shorten race lifespans. There's no point in having
elves be effectively immortal if everyone gets reinced annually anyway. 4. Add
a noreinc tax. Encourage everyone to reinc at least every 90 days by making a
noreinc tax which sucks 0.5-10% off of experience gained when it has been too
long since your last reinc.
