I have been thinking about apprenticeships lately, and I've been offering to
take any and all people wanting to be my apprentice over the past couple of
days... amazingly I've only had 3 takers, and one of those was someone who is
a friend of mine... also I rarely see others accepting apprentices...

So I thought, why aren't newbies jumping to do this... what is the downside? I
know there are plenty of unapprenticed newbies that come in and train even
while i'm standing here in guild room accepting apprentices... why don't any
of them accept?

The only thing I can think is that not enough know about it/understand exactly
what it does for them... now I'm not totally sure how to change that except to
give higher level players more of an incentive to accept apprentices...

As it stands the only benefit to someone accepting an apprentice occurs when
their apprentice maxes the guild... unfortunately it's pretty rare for someone
to advance to max guild level while in a reinc... most people tend to reinc
into more levels and would do this to max the guild rather than making the
levels in reinc... that is largely due to what needs to be done exp-wise to do
this... at level 49 you would need to save up 1.2m exp all on you in order to
level... conversely at level 50 you need 3.5 400k level blocks to advance a
level... a much easier task...

My proposal is that you give a small bonus to people who accept apprentices
for each level within the guild that is advanced while they are an
apprentice... in other words if i have an apprentice and he gains a guild
level, even if it's not the max level i should get some sort of bonus, even if
it's very minor... maybe 10k exp or something like that... not anything great,
but at least SOMETHING... now i understand this may be something that needs to
be done for the apprentice system on the whole rather than ranger guild, but
i'm starting with this here and i'll see if i get feedback on it before going
to ideas-wanted with it... oh and also, as this is the ranger guild and one
thing i think we don't have enough of is stuff that rewards rangers for
helping other rangers, another possible way to reward rangers for taking
apprentices would be to give someone a ranger point if they have 5 apprentices
or something like that...

As always feel free to flame :)

I can pretty much agree to most of what you said. However, I don't really
think giving a really minor exp award would make it worthwhile for the master.
It would either be so small that it wouldnt encourage someone into taking an
apprentice, or it would be so much that it wouldn't be in tune. Perhaps some
kind small award that couldn't be obtained by another means would work to
provide incentive to become a master.

Possibly even just some kind of visible status thing might be enough.

At any rate, I agree with your assessment that as it is now, the apprentice
system is more or less worthless.
