I've reviewed the code by which reavers get bonuses/penalties to destructive
energy based on who does the killing, how, and when. I have made the following
changes:
-- destructive energy slowly fades over time. That means, for example, that
blasting a monster 5 times and killing it within 5 minutes works exactly the
same as before, but blasting a monster 5 times and then taking an additional
half hour to kill it without using any reaver attacks will either give you no
credit for the kill, or (worse) penalize you for lackluster effort. It is in
your best interest, therefore, to keep your destructive energy strong by
continuing to use reaver attacks during long fights, at _least_ one reaver
spell per ten minutes, to maintain your rightful share of the kill.
-- If your destructive energy fades completely from a monster, a process that
takes a minimum of one hour, your share of the monster is wiped clean. That
means no penalty when the monster dies, but it also means no bonus either,
even if you're the one doing the killing. Again, keeping your share of the
monster going by throwing reaver attacks at it is the best way to ensure you
get the bonus you deserve.
Mathematically, the best move is to start longer fights by using as many
reaver attacks as you can to make sure you get credit for the kill, then using
at least one reaver spell every 10 minutes or every couple of runs to keep
your share in the monster strong. Shorter fights, of course, are not affected,
as not enough time will pass for your share in the monster to drop. As for
spiting a monster and running like hell, or trying a monster/failing/leaving,
this will lower the number of "lackluster" messages, especially if nobody
kills the affected monster for an hour (maybe less) so that your share drops
to nothing.

P.S. No, I am not going to add a message when your share of the monster is
strong enough for you to get the credit for the kill.
