This is an informative post, the changes here will not happen until some
unspecified time in the future (i.e. when I get around to them), but they will
happen.
Certain captains who shall *hack*Oo*cough* remain nameless *hack*ga*choke*
have demonstrated that luck can bring an inordinate number of trainers to your
ship, allowing you to reach the ceiling of rank 8 sailors sooner than I
expected to have to worry about them. The main problem with this is that ships
can then travel faster than I intended for them to.
Thus, I have decided that each ship class will have an associated max speed
assigned to it (drag in the water simply will not permit higher speeds). This
speed will be estimated assuming a full crew of sailors of rank 5-6.
Note that there are still benefits to higher ranked crews: they will respond
to disasters more quickly, obey orders more quickly, repair the ship faster,
etc. They just simply won't be able to propel the ship faster than
Melemkophysics will allow. (Also, a higher ranked crew may be able to reach
that max with fewer crewmembers...).
Anyway, the decision is yours as to how many of what rank crew you wish to
have, and always the more the better, you just have to make a sacrifice
somewhere else.

P.S. Shipbuilders may notice that 'cannonneers quarters' are now listed on the
class 2 specs, even though they can't be built yet - this is so you can plan
your ship better for when they are added.
