I guess this subject has been presented on several occasions before, but let's
have it once again.
I think it might be wise to make the skill percentages you get by using the
skill accumulate your total experience. With the current tune, the 'You get
slightly better...'-messages are rare at best, and it is still easier to kill
monsies or explore to train that same amount. I find a bit strange that this
game considers only killing and exploring valid sources of experience; doesn't
doing something also accumulate your knowledge at least as much as searching
and killing? Rgds, Ulath

Hopefully this point will end the debate:

Skill books can raise an expensive skill (such as dodge) multiple points by
exactly the same system as skill "practice" uses. And we are not handing
someone several megs of exp in a box just because they got lucky and
book-trained a hyper expensive skill over max.

There's also apprenticeship in the way, in case that matters.

I think that apprenticeship is somewhat limiting (cant have any free exp, etc
== newbies) and is actually good for player interaction...so if such a system
came into play, I'd like to see apprenticeship experience awarded at full
expanded value instead of spent value. It's not a big upgrade, and
additionally it only upgrades newbies who spend a lot of time trying to train
with their master.

Skill books would need to get solved...and i think that there were already
solutions posted to the issue...may not be good ones, but the skill books
could use a different bonus list instead of training the skill...I'm sure a
solution could be found if necessary.

Game balance wise and abusability wise, it may take some thouhgt to put in
safely, but from a theme and flavor wise, I think it would really be neat to
see, and it would 'make sense' (though we all know the issues with 'realism'
in a place like this)...
