-- The main eq boss of the event, the Redfang Doomflower, was summoned four
times. The Doomflower had a special multi-room strategy that required careful
party composition and planning. When the flower was active, it spawned four
"roots" 5 spaces away NW, NE, SE, and SW. These roots would create a ball of
poison gas every 25 rounds (combat or not) that floated the five squares to
the plant's room and exploded. Anyone in the poison cloud took 400 poison
damage per round, had a 2/3 chance of a "bash" spellbreak, and the plant was
healed 250 hp per tick as well. In addition, the plant itself had eight
attacks per round that did partial poison damage (which shreds armour-users),
casts poison attack spells and DMP, and had a "nuke" beam of rotating
damagetype. The victim targetted by the beam had to move at least one room per
battle round for six rounds, or else the beam would catch them and do massive
damage to every player in the same room. Holding still during the flower's
nuke beam attack is a certain partywipe.
So how to beat this thing? The plant slayers found out the only realistic way
to combat the plant was to recruit help. Killing the roots helped, although
they respawned shortly afterwards. Blasters were hired to intercept the
floating poison gas bombs and shoot them, detonating them safely in empty
rooms. Attacking the roots caused the main plant to sacrifice one of its own
melee attacks to protect the root, lowering its attacks by 1 and causing the
main plant itself to take 20% increased damage (per root!). Through continuous
root harassment and poison bomb intercepting, the main plant became a far more
managable creature to kill. Congrats go out to all the plant slayers!
-- A total of 57 mortals have been awarded necks that scale with level. A
special note: +str and +con necks were changed to "collar" armour types for
increased armour coverage, but this might have caused the stat bonus to stop
working as well. Let me know if your +str/+con necks don't give the stat
anymore so I can fix it.
-- In the fight 'which monster can kill the most other monsters' the winner
was Exploding Groundhog with 6 redfang kills. Second was rocket strikes form
Heavily-Armed Penguin with 3.
I hope everyone enjoyed the event. See you April 1st!
