Tests start at Daerwon waypoint.

Actually this is probably not the best way to measure ship speed.
I think Glace had the best way where he did 'sail 100 e' at open sea and just counted the amount of ticks the ship took. Then he increased the amount of sailing until another tick was done. So in the end he was able to say my ship does 12 rooms per tick or something like that.
Someone figure out the method and start posting real speeds for us :)

Just as another data point, here is info I gathered as I upgraded my sailors: Luc_port is obvious, 'sw_lae" is the waypoint in the sw corner of laenor, that continues east along the south part of the continent: This is for a class 3 ship, pristine, no spells on.
Traveling from luc to sw_lae takes 2:18 to 2:20 with all level 4 sailors.
Traveling from luc to sw lae takes 1:54 with bless with all level 4 sailors.
Traveling from luc to sw lae takes 1:56 with all level 5 sailors.
Traveling from luc to sw_lae takes ~1:30 when had all level 7 sailors
Traveling from luc to sw_lae takes 1:29 with 1 level 8, rest level 7.
Traveling from luc to sw_lae takes 1:26 with 2 level 10, 1 level 8, rest level 7.
Traveling from luc to sw_lae takes 2:18 to 2:20 with all level 4 sailors.

'whereami' seems to be a good way to count the number of rooms per tick, at least when moving near a continent (it doesn't give proper coordinates out in the middle of the ocean). Just start cruising in some direction and check your coordinates each tick.
FWIW, my completely bare-bones class 3 ship with a level 5 navigator can do 6 rooms per tick on the open sea, and 30 rooms per tick on a tradeline.
I propose that you sail along a tradeline (that supports whereami) that is long enough to support 5 cruising movements. (The southmost e/w tradeline on laenor is long enough for mine, as is the n/s tradeline in lucentium for instance).
