Some materials have been added to, and some removed from, the list of possible
chest building materials. In general, you cannot make a chest from a material
that:
-- falls apart easily at room temperature (wax, clay, air)
-- can be easily torn apart by bare hands (feathers, paper, charcoal), or
-- is too delicate to slam shut and lock (porcelain)

All other materials are go. This includes cloth (such as leather) organics
(such as ice) and inorganics (such as rubber...which is listed as inorganic
for some reason...hmm).
