The requirements I suggested in the last post, like ingame knowledge,
might be hard to measure. Instead I thought this alternative way of
deciding leadership.

Who else would be better to lead bards than skilled writers?

Every month one non-loremaster bard could challenge a loremaster in
a contest of writing. Maybe a masterbard could provide a current or other
topic, such as "Batmud's birthday" or "Burgle", on which both the challenger
and the challengee would write a piece. Maybe the topic could be free.

Both pieces would be anonymously posted to tales, other mudders
or just bards would decide which one is better and the winner would take
the loremaster's post. Loremasters in writing turn would be chosen by
round-robin order and challengers would be chosen from a queue ordered
by bmight, so the writing job would fall on a loremaster once in 4
months and those with more guild age would be given some preference.
Also, you would have to stay in the guild long enough that it would be
your turn to challenge, so only hard core bards would get the chance.
Similar challenge system for loremasters could be used to select the
masterbard, but the contest could only take place once per
2 or 3 months.

One good side would be that in the ideal case there would be a couple
of new stories once in a while for others to read, and because they
would depend on general opinion they wouldn't be any fancy artsy hard
to read stuff that no one would enjoy. You couldn't just sit on your
butt if you're a leader -- you would have to give your time to this game
in the best form suited for bards.

I guess I'll get -5 votes from the current leadership to this post,
like I seem to get to the previous one; just ignore those votes unless
they actually reply and give some reasons to keep this stagnated state.

On a side note, we are also short a Masterbard iirc. Why not just promote one
of the Loremasters?

As far as I recall, the last conversation about a new masterbard went
something like this:
Shardik tells you 'are there any bards that you think fit the job?'
You tell Shardik 'no..well, maybe Daria'.
Shardik tells you 'ok'.
...
...
...
...loooong silence.

Well it seems this was handled. Amarth promoted Kapu from Professional Bard to
Loremaster to Masterbard.
