So I know I ask this from time to time, but I figure I'll ask it again now
that ships are really picking up.

What kind of stuff do you guys want to see come to ships? With balance and fun
in mind, what kind of improvements do you think are needed, what kind of
features would you like to come to ships, what seems to be broken, what would
be cool, etc. I know a lot of things are ideal to happen, but what would you
like MOST to see change in the seas? I'm kind of a one-man army right now when
it comes to ships and it takes considerable effort to make changes to the
ships system and such, so I'm hoping to arouse some discussion so I know where
to put my efforts.

It's cool that you put effort into ships, I really like it. But,
I'm afraid with the current state of continental quests ships
are pretty much useless. No-one in their right mind will spend
millions of cash and hours of checking for trainers (right Glaurung? :)
when they can simply do all continental quests in less than a week
and travel with eq as much as they please :(
Same goes for wanderers... and continents. All for waste now.

Focus your much welcomed coding energy on other things :)

I hope you continue coding ships and other sailor stuff. Personally i use
ship, thought i play lot less than i used to. I understand that people think
ships might be useless, but let's face it. Part of players in bat always
thinks some parts of game are completely useless.

But what i'd like to see, is some serious ship based monster hunting. Pirates
are nice, but i mean like "huge seamonster" to fight with that you should have
a little armada with you to fight it. Or Some pirate armada that you could
hunt down and "master" ship would be more like eq monster than normal fight.

To make things a bit more interesting, set up 'ambushes' with pirates. So you
have a compass pointing to a 2 gemmer, make a small chance that there would be
a 1 gemmer (or maybe 2 or 3 gemmer) ship close enough that you couldn't engage
one with out the other. This would require the help of another ship or 2 (ie.
require an armada) to do them. By keeping them at the same relative level you
ensure that a pair of class 3 or 4 ships is required versus someone with their
dreadnaught coming in to rock things solo.
Also, make an event or just randomaly making a special compass (4 red flashing
gems or something) and it would point to a dozen pirate ships. If it was an
event you could make the special compass someting you would find on a NPC ship
when you looted it.

In my personal opinion we don't need any more +shit for getting the
training points. The compass colour tune was annoying enough, since it
cut some opportunities for mnavy. Do we really need merchant armadas to
battle pirate armadas. Not in my opinion. I like it just fine to hunt a
compass every now and then and not to worry running into dozen pirate ships.
And I do all my hunting just to get those precious training points. No
other reason.

What I'd like to see would be some other way for Merchant Navy to get the
points instead of kicking npc pirate butt. If that is implemented, then
do whatever you like to compasses but as long as they are the only source
of training points, please don't make nasty and abyl tunes to them.

Personally I don't find this entirely true. Speaking as someone who has done
all the continental quests, I still find my ship useful. Granted, I'm
currently in a reinc with no navs, so I use my ship mainly for sailing
to areas on continents. Also the ships are handy to have when running
a party around as well.

Remove all ships and remove new continents tune.

Hmm, sounds like a plan. I'll start with yours and see if I can find time to
finish like I do with the rest of my projects!
