This is a reminder to those out there to treat newbies right. You probably
remember Vorn who posted about wanting rogues, and then had a tiger mission
put out on him and (some) people posting negatively to his ideas. After the
reaction he received he's not been on in 2 weeks, so he's probably quit this
game. *NEWS FLASH* text base games are NOT all the rage anymore. So if you
find a guy who (albiet a little persistently) ask questions about an idea he
has, exercise some good judgement. Support their interest in the game. While
you may not like them or their ideas, they could be part of the future of this
mud. Lythlandria was not a very popular player, but he/she/it filled a role
in the mud. We need new blood into this game to keep it alive. He was one of
two newbie friends my secondary made and in discussions with him he had a
functional understanding of the game and he reacted VERY negatively when he
found out someone wanted his character killed. He probably was a teengage kid
who was a bit sensitive to critism, but he wanted to mud. I want this game
to go on for a long time, and to do so we need people to replace the bored
highbies that quit. So 'help finger' and be nicer to the newbies. Every one
that stays is a good thing for the future of our game.

He wasn't a teenager, he said he was a veteran in the war, and if he is a
teenager claiming veteran status he deserved everything he got, and as much as
we need new players in this game, i got pkilled 100x over for a lot less when
i first starting player. If you cant hack 1 kill, you aren't cut for this
game.

Ferry mud this, flower mud that. Yes, in good ol' times you could get pkilled
for idling at sc. that was in '97. Wake up it's 2011. The question isn't if you
can "hack" it, you shouldn't have to.

Xortoth seemed to miss out on the point, so I can sum it up for him. Being
mean to newbies = Population of players in Batmud lower. I took almost a 3
year break from playing and after returning found my friends lists full of
people who have not been on in 1+ year. There used to be so many more players
around. The addition of secondaries now? That should tell you something.
Instead of whining about how you got pkilled 100x for a lot less, how about
you try not being like that towards the newer players? Just because maybe you
can take a little punishment does not mean that everyone has the same
capacity. I'm not saying shower a newbie with absolute kindness and give them
eq or anything, but why not ask them to party and teach them a few things?

I was pkilled by qurp and some others for atleast 1 year long on a daily
basis, and it didnt stop me from playing. If he from one pkill quits playing i
can only say 'UHU BUHU'
' , and anyhow as xortoth pointed out, he wasnt a teenie either.

When we were starting we had a) many more players, b) most of the highbies
here were assholes.
Option b still hasn't changed much ;) but Option a should kinda make us adjust
a bit.

Any community that has been running for a long time in solitude
with a set of (un)written rules and behaviour is always extremely
hostile to new ideas and ideology.

On the other hand, if you join a new community, you should
first learn its ways, beliefs and rules before imposing your
own agenda into it (yes, this applies to real life modern
society as well) and also try to adapt.

I myself can be a very rigid person and like old habits,
and I kind of understand people's mental reaction to his posts,
but really didn't get why he had to be attacked. People
proving that they're 'right' via violence isn't new, and I
agree with Stalgrad that's not the way to keep players in here.
