The duration of protect armour/weapon is counted in RL hours, wheter the
player is online or offline. This greatly favors those who plan to play a lot
during those 2-3 days the prots last. In case of less frequent mudding, you
need a merchant to cast new prots almost every time you log in. In my
experience the merchants aren't too eager to answer to those "[wanted]: a few
prots" inquiries. This makes the less frequent mudding pretty frustrating.
I swap any regen eq out when entering combat, and I don't bother protting
cheap eq, but still there are several items I need to have protted or they'll
break apart pretty fast. I tried casting the prots from alchemist flasks, but
the items took damage through the prot.
What I'll suggest is: upgraded duration for prots, or a modification so that
being offline reduces the remaining duration for a maximum of 6 hours, for
example. In the latter case, if the prot duration is 48 RL hours, and I play
for 2 hours, then log off, and come back after 2 days, I would have 40 hours
worth of prots left.
I'd gladly pay more for prots if I could be sure I won't need new casts for
several days.
