I never thought the day would come when I would sensible answer
a post by Blackstar in ideas-wanted...

1. Where are all the newbies?
Beats me. There are some new chars being made all the time, but
I don\'t have stats on how many stay and play, and how many are just
secondaries / chat-accounts. Maybe they are playing WoW?

2. Are the current players the only system of advertisement
(word of mouth) for BatMUD?
At the moment, yes. We\'ve had some advertising campaigns (banners)
and been showcasing at some bigger events. The problem is that while
we have Finland quite well covered, we don\'t really have much knowledge
of how to market in the US and other locations. Reasonable suggestions
are always welcome (but I atleast refuse to dress up as a Klingon and
attend some scifi event for uber-geeks to market BatMUD).

3. Why does it seem (and I stress seem so as not to offend) there are only 3 wizards developing new code?
Not all wizards are suckers for attention. Some like to contribute silently.
We\'ve recently wizzed several new wizards, as well as arched two persons, so
hopefully that will improve the overall activity a little.

4. There is always player loss when new code, mostly major is implemented. Is this being recorded? subquestion: is the increase in new players due to these new tunes also being recorded?
Not really. We have some stats about average online players that we
monitor from time to time. In most cases, I don\'t think a decline in players
is due to any specific change we\'ve made. Similarily, I\'m quite sure we
don\'t see new players just because we change something (old players
may return to check it out, but the word of a change in some eq system
for example would not reach people who haven\'t played bat before).

5. Why will people be angry when reading this? (afterall, these are valid questions.).
I\'m not angry. These are questions we have been discussing among the
archwizards for many years. Possibly in the future, we will ask players
for more detailed comments about how they envision BatMUD in the
future, as well as where you\'d like us to go.
