Multiple Characters was legal when I started playing Batmud, and I miss it.

It was implemented with a simple rule, and I'll paraphrase it.
You can have multiple characters as long as they do not interact.

It's my understanding that it was removed because it was too time consuming
for the admin to monitor and prevent abuse.

I've noted that some muds do have multiple characters and others don't. (and
I'll put this in quick, reinc is not a replacement to multiple characters)

I have also noted some MMORPG's have multiple characters and they don't
discourage interaction at all, to the point that it's common for a player to
ask for a transfer of equipment to their alternate character.
There is no doubt that allowing a players characters to interact does alter
game play, but how destructive is it?

My point being, that multiplaying can and has been embraced in some games and
it appears to be a feature that makes players happy.

It's also a feature that can be implemented with a variety of rules, depending
on how much of a problem is seen with a player 'cross pollinating' their own
players.

In brief, I'd love to the ability have muliple characters as long as they're
never logged in at the same time, it's fairly easy to monitor. Let them share
items, let them share citys and rooms, who cares. It's too difficult to
monitor that.

Apologies if this falls in the annually requested ideas, someone posted that
they missed my posts so I had to write something.
