No, you are not the only peson who thinks so. But if I asked "does anyone
think it's wrong that bunnies don't drop mithril boxes" I'd probably get some
people to find that wrong, as well.
The code that makes spellcasting in combat is quite old. I didn't make it, and
I don't plan on changing it, either. It is based on the idea that game balance
would be better served if tanks were in the front row, and spellcasters in the
back row. If you want to cast spells in combat, get used to hits disurpting
your spells. You can reduce this by
-- getting more dodge
-- getting more parry
-- getting thicker armour and more combat sense
-- get more QC to cast spells faster, or cast faster spells (there _is_ a
reason habo takes for-freaking-ever, you know)
-- getting more/better prot spells
You can remove the risk entirely by
-- standing behind a tank
-- not casting spells in the front row (except to start a fight) Spellcasting
in combat is hard. It is hard on purpose. And yes, a hit like the "bash"
skill, which does diddly-poop damage, can break your concentration. So will
even a comparatively light hit to, say, the hand you're making arcane
guestures with, the face when you're chanting, the leg when you perform a
mystical dance, etc. Keep this in mind when you're planning your next reinc.
