Currently the system seems to be: Automatic ambush _unless_ you have good
dex/int/extreme luch with alertness. Wouldn't it be logical that the default
is no ambush unless the opponent is skilled in such art. And even more logical
that in a situation like this: 'huge gigantic ambushing stingbee arrives from
west'->'leave east'->'You are ambushed!' wouldn't happen. If I see some person
arriving from some direction, I'm pretty sure I can run the other direction. I
have hard time imagining anyway, that a size 2 creature could block my leave.
So, maybe make ambush a skill, or dependant on something. Seems the only
persons getting ambushed currently are tarmas who have low int and low dex.
And while at it, maybe if players, too, could ambush give bonuses against the
ambushed player/mob, like +attackspeed or something for a short while.
Also, if a person (ranger or supadupa-eq-owner) epeers some direction and sees
there's a gigantic-ambushing-potato present, maybe it wouldn't ambush when you
enter the room as you already know it's there, kinda like detect trap works -
there's a good spam on party channel to alert your partymembers. Leadership
already gives some of this, but it's pretty much crimson-only skill.
When I think of an ambush, I think there's someone in hiding and then jumps
out to attack when I don't expect it or something to that extent. The ability
to ambush should be one time only, it sucks when there's a tracking monster
(you know it's coming after you, with speed) and they ambush you all over
again and again.

Mahon is so right about this ambushcode. What is even more frustrating is
entering a room with an aggressive monster, getting the ambushavoidmessage and
1 battleround later you can't leave the room because You are AMBUSHED!
This happened to me and I also reported it with a little logstring attached.
Second thing i found out at the barbarian arena while getting beat by Bartel:
I was ambushed, got beat up by Bartel, Zantha the arena master comes to the
rescue and drags me out and I go unconcious outside the arena as battle
apparently didn't finish due to me being ambushed and Bartel triple hits me
OUTSIDE the arena.
Just my 50 cents.

Personally I don't see such a big problem in a tracking monster ambushing you.
Although you know the mob is there, the terrain (eg. forest) makes it
difficult for you to see it... and then it suddenly jumps in front of you
blocking your way, thus ambushing you. Of course this would make much more
sense if the mob arrives (successfully) with the 'sneak' skill. I also agree
that ambushing could be a skill (at least for mobs). Thus a tracking mob with
a high 'ambush' and 'sneak' would be a uber-hunter mob.
