It's kinda controversial that with 'look' you get an area
around you according to your vision, but with 'map' you
always get the same, bigger area (even if your vision is
bad).
This might be a bit radical, but I would go for it:
Give an option for your character in a reinc to choose.
You could either:
'rely on an ancient map of the batrealm', or
'use a skill to scout your surroundings', but not both.
If you rely on the map, you see things as they are now.
If you choose the skill, you could train a skill that works
like the spell wizard eye, and you cannot use the normal
'map'-command anymore.
Scouting skill already exists. It doesn't show monster locations like
look does, but does give a larger area of the outworld than map, or that
with races with good vision.
The 'map' command in the outerworld will eventually show the same
map that 'look' does (maybe with some tiny alteration), and not
the old map that it currently does. However, as I am currently
travelling and with limited access to the Internet, this will
have to wait (along with several fixes to the map system,
partially based on feedback I've received) until I get home.
