If the intent of this new code is to kill more newbies, and prevent anyone
except tanks with 100% alertness from wandering/exploring/soloing, then it is
working great. But new ambush code sucks, imho. Thanks for nice try, but
please change back. Thanks.

This is not the "new ambush tune". Seriously old-school players will recognize
this as the original form of ambush. You find an aggressive monster, it tries
to stop you from running away. That's how the idea has always been.

Now somewhere in the last few years, almost certainly accidentally, the code
changed and ambush became "the monster can't ambush you if you run away, but
it can ambush you if you stay and fight". This is, of course, the exact
opposite of the idea of an ambush. An ambush is the attempt to _make_ you stay
and fight if you _don't_ want to. What kind of sense does it make that someone
cannot ambush you if you panic and run, or worse, continue walking and not
even paying attention? That's the opposite of the idea.

Now I know many of you have gotten used to the ambush as it used to be. But if
you're a wandering healer with low int, low dex, and no special training in
avoiding ambush, and a lion jumps out of the wood "Grr!" you, the healer, are
going to get eaten.
Of course you _want_ to run away, who wouldn't? But the day an actual human
being can outrun a lion in open terrain is when I start letting drow and ents
do it carrying 25kg of heavy armour and beer. The lion is driven by instinct,
four legs, 250-300 dex and years of practice with faster, sleeker animals. You
are a drow healer with 100 dex if you're lucky. You're going to get caught.
Start chaining healing spells and pray to last the 2-3 rounds you have to to
gte out of this alive. Wimpy + word of recall helps. So does drow moving at
night/dark, but that's just one example.
You could try other forms of stealth (such as inviso or sneak potions), other
forms of travel (go, for example) or you could stay away from where the lions
are. Yes, this means lvl 20 players shouldn't be poking around in jungles,
swamps, and dangerous-looking dungeons without assuming some amount of risk.
Some parts of the game are harder than others, and explore exp comes because
of the risk it entails.

I will once again say the most important point here: the ambush code was _not_
working correctly before. Those of you wandering blindly through the outworld
zipping past nasty hunter predators without even seeing the "you avoided an
ambush" message should have known something was wrong, and should have said
somethinb before. Monsters are aggro for a reason, and that reason is so they
can try to kill you. Being able to simply stroll past them saying "la la la,
you can't touch me because I'm using my 170-step go-to-my-guild command" is
against both the spirit and the code of ambushing.

That said, if there are issues involved with ambush, such as the invisible
player one (fixed) or the ambush-double-message one (fixed at reboot), I can
and will deal with those. But I am not putting the ambush "tune" bug back the
way it was just so your slow, stupid, disoriented drow healer can prance about
in the face of lions, tigers, and bears (oh my) and expect, _expect_, to get
through safely. That's not silly, that's stupid.

Shouldn't sneak allow you to avoid ambush since you enter stealthily and avoid
an ambush since they don't see you coming? And who makes a drow healer? You
get 1/2 stats! No wonder you get ambush with 1/2 stats

Let me clarify what I meant before I get spam saying sneak does work. I meant
every attempt to leave during an ambush should be bolstered by sneak maybe?
since you are STILL sneaking, perhaps you can "slip away" easier by sneaking
out of combat by distracting the mob, just a thought (like a seperate + on the
dice roll to break ambush)

I don't think that the skill called "sneak" is going to prove very helpful
when you're already in combat by creatures who clearly know you are there. It
is possible another skill might be used (controlled panic?) or a new skill
entirely.
